The Casino Maltese, considered as a national institution, on many occasions served as the Town Hall of Valletta, where many distinguished international personalities were entertained.
The Casino Maltese now serves as a Gentleman's Club of an established prestige whose members include past and present Presidents of the Republic of Malta, as well as Prime Ministers and parliamentarians from both sides of the House.
The same applies to Chief Justices, Judges, Magistrates and well-known members of the professions. Wives and daughters of members can use all the facilites of the Club, with the exception of a couple of rooms.
The Club offers bar and restaurant services, a billiard room and reading room, as well as other facilities. The Knights of St John erected this building in the 17th century, to serve them as their treasury. During World War II, the building suffered a direct hit and was extensively damaged. The 1852 Latin Sundial inside was later restored in a purely Maltese fashion.
